Rachel Woodham is a Slidell-native and local business owner who grew up in Olde Towne Slidell with several family members both living and working, here. One of those family members was local artist, Cindy Cenac. Cindy's passion for creating art inspired Rachel and is what initially sparked Rachel's interest in art.
In 2012, alongside her Nanny, Rachel became one of the selected artists to participate in the Pelicans on Parade project in Slidell. The Pelican's on Parade was an art fundraiser used to help raise money for the Children's Wish Endowment for local children. Large pelican sculptures were sponsored by local businesses, custom painted by each artist and then placed throughout Slidell. Rachel's pelican can be viewed at Doyle Funeral Home in Olde Towne Slidell.
In 2012, Rachel's social media management background began when she launched the Slidell Mommies Facebook group in an effort to connect with other mothers in our area while also providing a central hub for local moms to come and ask questions and share concerns.
In August 2014, Rachel launched her business, Damsel n Distress, producing and selling her art. In 2015, Rachel open her first brick & mortar in Olde Towne, located in the old Passionate Platter house(Now, Franzo home). She also moved into residential Olde Towne, just blocks away from her shop, on College St. It was that time period that reignited the love and passion she had for our downtown and the potential it held.
These days you can find Rachel and her shop in the Antique District of Olde Towne Slidell, a block down from her original space. Rachel is an active member of the Main Street Slidell Executive board and volunteers her time regularly, for the betterment of our community.
Rachel enjoys sharing her ideas and visions for Olde Towne. Her goal is to continue to grow our area while also supporting the Main Street vision. She is directly responsible for our new Main Street Mixer socials, recent design work, social media engagement & community engagement for all things Main Street.
In April 2023, Rachel successfully brought her first Main Street event--'Earth Fest in the Dell', to life! This event was brought to life in an effort to offer fun, kid-friendly activities for our families to do, locally. Rachel looks forward to continuing to share her visions, grow passion in others, and work to bring a vibrant downtown to life that our community enjoys visiting.
