September is off to a great start! My husband and I took an impromptu road trip to Mississippi. It's always an education to see how other states "do" small towns. We passed through Natchez, Leland, Indianola, Benoit, Greenwood and Greenville and Vicksburg. A lot of these towns have the benefit of being located on the historic blues trail - HWY 61. The B. B. King Museum is a huge draw for fans all over the world. Leland is home to Jim Henson, where they have a modest "Ode to Jim" at the Jim Henson Museum. And all the other towns in between - Transylvania, Port Gibson, and wait a second...I bet you'd like to know more about Transylvania. They have a huge bat on their water tower, as expected. They have a post office with a terrific shadowbox of different letters sent from the town, and at one time, they had a pretty significant elementary school. Looks like the bats flew the coop, though. It's dilapidated and appropriately spooky!
We love driving through Mississippi - we always meet the most wonderful people. They are welcoming and kind, and their goal is to make you feel at home. I feel the same way about Louisiana. We are the consummate hosts. We want to feed you. We want you to hear our music. We want you to see and savor our natural beauty. Slidell is no different. Saddle up to any of our fine drinking holes - the bartender will let you try a local beer, while pointing you to one of our many spas and salons. Need a place to eat? You're sure to run into someone who will offer their favorite restaurant. That is what is so special about a small, historic town: the people. The people who live here and the people who visit. Calling: all those with wanderlust! Find your way here and we will find you a good time!
